A big trend prediction for interior design in 2019 is all about neutral colour palettes. A far cry from beige, these tones are warm, earthy and natural with flashes of rosy pink. Think oatmeal and stonewashed linen, hemp and sandy hues, as well as naturally sourced materials for an organic feel. Read on to find out a few ways in which you can embrace the trend in your own home…
The Dulux Colour of the Year for 2019 has been named ‘Spiced Honey.’ The colour is caramel-like in tone with a slight golden hue, emulating comfort and optimism. This shade can be used as an accent colour to create warmth and looks fresh when paired with contrasting shades such as a creamy whites or dusky greys.
Building on the movement towards more sustainable living, we’re starting to see many natural materials being used in furniture design and home accessories. From rustic wooden dining tables to seagrass baskets, look out for natural and handmade centrepieces to enhance your indoor spaces. Cork is another material set to make a come back and driftwood pieces are a great way to create a back-to-nature setting.
Keep walls and window dressings neutral in colour to create a simplistic backdrop. Wooden window shutters are also a great option for this trend. Choose a natural and sustainable wood like that used for our Hamble Shutter Range and select soft hues of pearly white or stoney grey for a calm and pure setting.
With this neutral backdrop comes lots of texture. Add layers of cozy textiles such as blankets and cushions for extra warmth and keep things interesting underfoot with natural wood flooring and sumptuous rugs. For more contrast, try combining natural textures with more modern materials like metal on wood.
